just as the promist filter the black promist reduces hard edges without reducing focus, achieving a smaller contrast.
Redistribution of the incoming light leads to reduced over-exposure than with promist-filters. Further it brightens shadows as well as it reduces highlights in the image. A perfect filter for improving images unnoticed.
