19.03.2009 – HR reports in the news magazine ‚Hessenschau’ about the role Pille camera and lighting rental played in the oscar winning movie ‚Slumdog Millionaire’
In the news magazine ‚Hessenschau’ on 19.03.2009, the TV-sender HR (Hessischer Rundfunk) reported in a 4 minute documentation about the spezialized camera which was constructed by Pillefilm and used for shooting the movie ‚Slumdog Millionaire’.

Eight Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire
60% of the movie which won eight oscars was shot with digital cameras. Pille camera and lighting rental delivered the camera equipment based on SI-2K cameras from P+S Technik.
DOP Anthony Dod Mantle shot ‚Slumdog Millionaire’ with the SI-2K from P+S Technik and Silicon Imaging but he also used a digitale mirror reflective still photo camera and 35mm film.
Four SI-2K camera heads which were combined by Pille with PC-technology for recording, were used. Pille camera and lighting rental worked together with DIT Stefan Ciupek in configuring the digital camera system and delivered four kits to the production company. The biggest advantage of this system for the production of ‚Slumdog Millionaire’: The HD camera head can be separated from the recording unit. Being very small the camera head can therefore be carried and used unnoticed. The team was able to shoot scenes even in dangerous areas of Mumbai, at original locations in slums of Mumbai with the remaining devices built into a briefcase. Different gear would not have been possible to use in those locations. Digital systems allowed working with a small, unremarkable team. Recording and control of the footage was done on Macbook Pros which have been built into the briefcases as well with a display being visible from outside.

Congratulations to DOP Anthony Dod Mantle and director Danny Boyle for four Golden Globe awards and ten Oscar nominations for their feature film ‚Slumdog Millionaire’, which we were able to equip with four complete Sets of SI-2K camera systems.
